Cross reference of chapters in text

Post by joern »

Hello
I formatted different chapters, figures etc. via auto-titles and cross reference for tables and figures work fine. Also the TOC for all auto-titles is correct. I have a problem with cross referencing the chapters.

If I only use the actual number as element, I get the following:
ch. 2 on pp. 10
That is wrong.

If I only use the complete element, I get the correct cross reference:
ch. 3.2 Rock parameter on pp. 10

I encounter the problem with all sub-chapters (3.2 - 3.2.1 - 3.2.1.1) but not with the first (3). Since the complete element shows the correct chapter number I have no idea how to solve that problem.

thanks for any help

Glad to know. For the benefit of other Mellel users, can you go through steps to solve it?

I'm glad to explain it. If you edit the chapters within auto-titles you have to set 'Curr#.Title' or 'Prev#1.Curr#.Title' etc. I thought that, once it is edit, I have only to choose the actual element# in the cross reference because chapter 3.2. is/was for me the actual element#. But you have to do the same in the cross reference like in the auto-title window and not only element#. Its a kind of inconvenient.
