track changes

Post by timofcanberra »

I would like to know if it is possible to have two colors in track changes as it is hard to differentiate between strikethough and added text when the changes are complex and meant for another reader. I am doing changes to my PhD as per examiner comments and I would like deletions in red and insertions in blue for increased readability.
I even tried find and replace but that does not work
Somewhat oddly I can change the color of inserted text but it does not show unless final is chosen in the track changes ribbon.

Can I ask that the track changes allow such differentiation if it currently does not. Even if it is a default that allows red vs blue that would be acceptable.

Thanks

When you work in track changes mode, inserted and deleted text is coloured with your "user colour". This colour overrides the actual colour of the text and that's why you can't see it (the actual colour) for inserted text. You cannot set different colours for insertion and deletion but you can control the "user colour" via the preferences/document setup. Unfortunately the colour setting you make there apply to future documents and will not apply on existing documents with track changes so I'm not sure if this is much help.

Hi Eyal

thanks for the reply. As an individual user it is not a problem but when trying to collaborate with others who refuse to move from word it irks me that word gets this feature right. Common practice in editing is that deleted text is red and inserted text is blue. I am sure this is possible in xml.

Kind regards

Tim
