Accepting Changes Incrementally

Post by laup »

Is it possible to select a paragraph with changes and then accept only the changes in that selection?

NO. Accept All or Reject All applies to changes throughout the entire document, whether or not there is a selection when you choose it. And although you can select a stretch of text containing multiple changes or select multiple change bubbles in the Annotation panel, when you do, the Accept and Reject Change options gets grayed out in the Track Changes menu. So your choices are one at a time or all at once.

Would be a nice thing to have. Perhaps we'll add something along this line in the future.

Being able to accept changes in a selected passage would be very helpful. Re-reading and checking a marked-up passage can be very difficult because of the combination of strikeouts, additions, and difficult-to-see changes (e.g., deletion of spaces).

Here is a work-around. It's probably been obvious to others all along, but to me it was a welcome discovery today.

• When viewing a messy marked-up passage, copy the passage and paste it in front of the passage in question. The pasted material will be "clean" (although in blue). Then delete all of the original messy passage so that it can simply be ignored when reading.

As a variant, copy the passage into a new Mellel document, and then copy and paste it back into the original. The changes will then have been accepted (no longer in blue).

I'm happy to inform you that the ability to accept or reject all changes in the selection will be available in Mellel 4.3
