Half-arsed implementation of footnotes

Post by Icelander »

***14 years*** since the original post.
Just as relevant now as it was 14 years ago!

A post by nicka from 2007:

"isn't it odd that you can restart note numbering with every section, but you can't collect notes at the end of a section?
If you want to restart numbering with each section, then it's a fair bet that you might want to display the notes at the end of each section, isn't it? Certainly lots of academic books of papers have endnotes (and a bibliography) at the end of each chapter."

This ties into a larger issue. It is often very useful and even necessary to collect both notes and references at the end of chapters, as with an edited or otherwise modular book. Thus, in thinking about how to address the notes feature in Mellel, Eyal should think also about Bookends.

Also, I suggest allowing note streams attached to individual tables and figures.
