Make first letter of sentence large (drop cap)

Post by devananda »

Is it possible to make the first letter of a sentence drop cap?

And then make the next sentence directly underneath the line without the space between; and have the next sentence start directly next to the big section of the letter?

You could do a drop cap with the initial letter in the margin by setting up a character variation with a larger font size and lower baseline, and the paragraph style having an initial outdent. However, I'm not quite certain how one might achieve a classic drop cap with the paragraph flowing and wrapping around the initial as if it were an anchored image -- other than using an image as the initial.

I think an image is currently your only option. An Illustrator file just containing the single capital letter would be a good choice.
