Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Post by Eyal Redler »

We've recently added a "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQ) to our website, the FAQ is based on our experience in answering support questions and we plan to add and revise the page with time.

We welcome any comments about the clarity, stuff we're missing or redundancies in the page, it would help immensely if you could think back to your days as a Mellel newbie and think of questions you had back than that might be useful to people new to Mellel today.

A link to the FAQ is posted on the support page and you can access it directly here:

The walk-around for printing the outline doesn't work for me. What I get is just this:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
<opml version='1.0'><head><title>Outline</title></head><body><outline text='Begin'><outline text='Lorem ipsum'/><outline text='Lorem ipsum 2'><outline text='Lorem ipsum 3'/></outline></outline></body></opml

My system version is High Sierra (10.13.6), in case that matters.

Looks like Mellel didn't recognize the file as OPML when you re-opened it. Did the file have an "opml" file name extension?

Yes.

Another walk-around is to
1. open it with OmniOutliner
2. Export as RTF from OmniOutliner and then
3. open in Mellel

A shorter route would be to choose File > Import > OPML and choose the opml file.
The issue here is just that for some reason Mellel (or the operating system) is not detecting that the file is opml and so the app interprets it as plain text, showing you the raw OPML source code.

Shorter perhaps, but it's a cul-de-sac, a route leading nowhere, at least for me. This is what I get when I import OPML:

A TestLorem ipsumNunc at velitNulla mauris odioNullam portaPellentesqueVestibulumPraesent sagittisAliquam dictumUt metusMorbi lectus quamProinSuspendisse

Worst of all though is, that the Remarks which I meticulously added to each Auto-title do not show up at all.

Another, more natural walk-around is to create a TOC, albeit without the Remarks. The following TOC/Outline was created from a test file.
… Unfortunately the forum software doesn't seem to be able to create an hierarchical list, so the following list doesn't look very much like an outline. Sorry about that.

A Test
1. Lorem ipsum
A. Nunc at velit
1) Nulla mauris odio
2. Nullam porta
A. Pellentesque
B. Vestibulum
C. Praesent sagittis
1) Aliquam dictum
a) Ut metus
b) Morbi lectus quam
3. Proin
A. Suspendisse
