To begin with, allow me two questions:
1) Why do you need German old spelling?
2) And why "before 2006"? The new orthography has been in effect since 1996, with updates from 2004, 2006, 2011 and 2017. So I guess, what you actually need is the orthography from the time before 1996.

You can use German old spelling with cocoAspell which is a free System Preference pane.
https://people.ict.usc.edu/~leuski/cocoaspell/home.php

The German Old Spelling dictionary can be found on the Aspell Dictionaries FTP site
ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/aspell/dict
Or here:
https://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/aspell/dict/0index.html

Instructions on installing are here:
https://people.ict.usc.edu/~leuski/coco ... l_dict.php

There may be more than one old German dictionaries you can choose from. The one I checked today is from 2004.

cocoAspell is important for all Mac users who write in languages for which Apple has no spellcheckers. In 2005 cocoAspell had more than 74 dictionaries available and in 2009 there were already dictionaries for more than 90 languages available.
I have been using cocoAspell myself for as long as I can remember.

Thank you so much indeed for your information!
I would like to have old German spelling – you are right, the so-called reform started 1996 or so – because I still write in the old style. At the time I signed several initiatives to stop this linguistically speaking stupid and rather inconsequent reform, full of writings following false etymologies etc. Orthography is a mirror of history on one side; on the other it is a compromise between actual pronounciation und morphological derivation (very important for Germanic languages; the Romance ones are better off in this respect). But this would be a long discussion.
Thanks again for cocoaspel! I am wondering, BTW, why Microsoft Office is offering the choice between old and new German spelling.

Dear Munfarid,
Could you please be so kind and give us some feedback regarding the cocoAspel dictionary? Does it work for you? Are there any problems you have encountered?
