Updater to 6 not working- RESOLVED

I have shut down and repeated the process three times now and am still at the initial version 5.1.6

Check for Updates
It downloads 95MB of data
Asks for system password and additional dialog box says waiting for Mellel to close.
I enter password
The dialog boxes go away.
Then nothing happens.
Hours later it is still at 5.1.6.
If I repeat the process it acts as though I never started to update Mellel in the first place and does not detect any preexisting downloaded data or update previously started.

EDIT: I originally neglected to mention that during my first update attempt it seemed to hang up on the dialog box which said something like "Waiting for Mellel to close." It is a 2nd window that appears simultaneously when prompted to enter system password. Once I entered the password this other window never closed. Past experiences with Mellel updates is that they do not take very long. It was taking much longer this time. After a while I Force Quit the update then reattempted the update three more times.

I was contacted by Eyal and followed his suggestion to download the full version instead of using the updater approach.

The software recognized my existing serial number and works fine.
